"To protect and conserve"

Events and Activities

We (HCS) work on the Heath in conjunction with Surrey Wild Life Trust to restore and maintain the valuable heathland we have at our doorstep. We clear rubbish, we remove invasive Scots Pine, we encourage the growth of Heather, Gorse and deciduous trees to improve biodiversity and we educate the public on heathland and how to protect it.

We do most of our work in the winter months as between March and September the birds are nesting and most of the birds are ground nesting. We desperately need more volunteers. It is fun. It is good for the environment and excellent for your health. Please consider joining us.

We meet every Wednesday morning meeting at the barrier at the end of the Bracknell Road in the Old Dean, Camberley (see the map below). Meeting at 9.45 am. We then aim to be there for a couple of hours. Weekends we have a couple of Morning sessions usually on a Saturday and another work party from 2 pm

Please try it out. Let me know

2017/2018 conservation season activities continues

We start again this coming Wednesday after the Christmas break. Let's hope the horrrible wet and windy weather is behind us. Wednesday looks a little mixed at the moment but warmer. We carry on no matter what as we only have until the end of February and there is still  alot to do! I do hope all our regulars can come and many others can make an appearance.

Wishing you all a happy new year

David

The new conservation season is due to start soon (2016/2017)

Dear friends,

Another season is upon us and I do hope you will all be able to join me if not every time, at least some of the time. Every Wednesday morning starting at 10 am until "lunchtime" and every Saturday afternoon.
First Wednesday will be 12th October. I will let you know where we are working nearer the time once I have instructions/suggestions from Ben. I hope it will be in the area we were last season as there is still a lot to do there

See you all soon

David

A recent impromptu clear up - September 4th 2016

An impromptu clear up took place this past Sunday (4th Sept) in the vicinity of what is locally called "Tarmac Hill". Despite not many people being present (it was short notice after all) 10 sacks were filled with rubbish, mainly old builders waste from a time when fly tipping was both possible and prevalent. HCS was instrumental in getting metal barriers installed to stop vehicular access to the Heath and the associated fly tipping that was taking place.....

An assortment of un-baggable waste was also removed from the area including two old mattresses!

Thanks go to the Accent Group Ltd for their support.

I think you will agree that the area is so much cleaner and more pleasant (not to mention safer for local wildlife) since HCS volunteers started restoration work all those years ago.....

Pictured is Terry (chairman of HCS) and Colin (from the Beacon Centre, Camberley) still in good spirits at the end of a hard couple of hours work!

Work parties on Bagshot Heath - The Poors

A happy new year to you all.

We plan to be more operational from now so I hope some of you can join us for our work parties. We continue with  our regular work party on a Wednesday morning starting at about 10 am until lunchtime.

We are also now expanding on the Saturday afternoon slot that has been manned almost exclusively by Trevor and Jim this season. Meeting at 1.30 pm and continuing as long as you want into the evening

We have some interesting projects led by Ben Habgood our SWT ranger to open up new areas of heathland and create corridors between different patches of existing Heather.

We are working on the South Side of the Poors just to the East of the Communication Tower so easy to find us.

Please let me know if you are coming or just pop along. i look forward to seeing some of you again.
